Veneers Q&A
What are dental veneers?
Veneers are a dental cosmetic procedure used to improve your smile. They are a thin piece of porcelain similar to the width of a contact lens. Veneers fit on top of your existing teeth and offer a long-lasting result that increases your self-confidence and satisfaction with your teeth and smile.
Can veneers replace missing teeth?
Veneers can’t replace a tooth you’ve lost nor can they be used to repair decay. Veneers are a good solution for fixing:
• Discolored teeth
•Gaps between teeth
• Slightly crooked or misaligned teeth
• Misshapen teeth • Chipped or broken teeth
While crowns and braces can fix some of these problems, too, veneers provide a faster and easier solution for common teeth problems.
Can I get veneers?
If your teeth and gums are healthy you can get veneers. If you have decay, cavities, or need root canals, Infinity Dental Group requires that you first have your teeth cleaned and repaired prior to getting veneers.
How many appointments do I need for veneers?
Once you and your Infinity Dental Group provider determine veneers are the right solution for your needs, you’ll need two dental appointments to complete the process.
You receive a dental exam, X-rays, and undergo impressions of your mouth and teeth at your first veneer appointment. The impression is sent to a laboratory as the model for creating your veneers.
At the second appointment, a thin layer of enamel is removed from your teeth to prepare for the veneers. Before cementing the veneers in place, the color and fit are checked.
It’s unlikely that you will need local anesthesia for veneer placement, but Infinity Dental Group ensures you are comfortable throughout your appointment.
How long do veneers last?
When properly cared for, veneers typically last between 7 and 15 years before needing to be replaced. Caring for your veneers is the same as caring for your natural teeth. Brush and floss twice daily and keep your annual dental exams at Infinity Dental Group.
Porcelain veneers resist stains, but you should avoid consuming a lot of red wine or coffee as it may discolor the veneers.
